The History of Stormy Lodge...

Bob and Casey (aka Karin) Bockoven purchased the Stormy Lodge acreage on the bank of the Entiat River in 1987. Bob had been planning to build a log cabin for years and had a good idea of what he wanted. He designed what would become Stormy Lodge. The log work with Douglas fir logs was done in Canada. The logs were erected in 1989. The building was enclosed in 1989 and 1990. Bob was an active ophthalmic surgeon but worked on weekends and holidays over the next ten years to complete the home. He installed the entire tile roof, did the finish work, all the electrical and most of the plumbing, designed and installed the underground irrigation system. Casey became an accomplished trim painter and tile setter. She designed the kitchen, baths and did the decorating. Both Bob and Casey would take breaks from the actual construction, finish carpentry, painting, caulking and decorating to plant trees, shrubs and flowers. These construction breaks proved to be very beneficial for several reasons, not the least of which was to provide a more mature landscaping earlier than if they had waited until the home was completed.

Casey wanted to have a sign by the highway telling folks that they live here. Choosing the name of Stormy Lodge seemed simple enough. The house is located where Stormy Creek joins the Entiat River and it tended to resemble a lodge. Over the years many people have driven in and asked if we were a B & B. Since our six kids aren't here often it seemed reasonable to rent out the rooms on the first floor and spice up our lives with paying company and someone Bob could entertain with tales of log building, fire fighting (The Tyee Creek Fire of 1994 started one mile up river), etc. They would enjoy meeting you.
